No BlackBerry 10 smartphones till Q4 2012
A bad day for BlackBerry fans today after it was revealed that due to chipset issues we won't be seeing any BlackBerry 10 smartphones any time soon Mike Lazaridis today confirmed that news that BlackBerry 10 phones will not be making their debut anytime soon with an expected release of the first handsets set for the end of 2012.
In a conference call to investors and developers the co-CEO explained that the delays were due to the chip requirements set by BlackBerry 10 which needs the right balance of both power and battery performance.
Because a chip like that doesn't actually exist yet the company is having to hold fast until the chipsets they know they'll be using will actually be available for use.
The news has come as a suprise after it was believed that the leaked BlackBerry London would in fact be the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone and coming out in the New Year.

New BlackBerry Curve 9350, 9360 and 9370 cell phones
The new BlackBerry Curve 9350, 9360 and 9370 are the cheap BlackBerries. The differences between these phone and the new Bold: lower screen res/size cpu is slower 800mhz vs 1.2ghz different style keyboards none touch screen to name a few things. Curve is a good addition to the blackberry family as it covers the lower end without sacrificing too much. Blackberry, to me, still seems like the best tool for reliable email, instant messaging (any client), calendar, voice, twitter. Its secure and extremely reliable which is why so many execs and government officials still use it. I want a QNX dual core touchscreen BB with a front facing camera and 4G.

TELUS BlackBerry Torch 9860 Delayed for August 30, Curve 9360 Coming on August 26

Wikitude for BlackBerry 9900 Puts BBM Friends into Augmented Reality
I trust that including an augmented reality app preloaded on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 will go a long way to educating new smartphone owners about the possibilities opened by the hardware. For those not really into tech, AR is a little out there, and as soon as it starts recognizing BBM friends, it can get a little creepy (even if those BBM contacts have provided trusted status). The BlackBerry 9900 is launching this summer on T-Mobile and elsewhere; we’ll be sure to try out Wikitude when the new Bold is out.

BlackBerry 7 OS brings NFC support, voice search
Research In Motion kicked off its annual BlackBerry World conference with the unveiling of the BlackBerry 7 operating system, which will ship on the company's new RIM BlackBerry Bold 9900 and BlackBerry Bold 9930.
RIM said that its revamped mobile OS is a "performance driven" platform and promises easier navigation through its Liquid Graphics interface, as well as faster, richer graphics performance and browsing. The latter is enabled by a revamped BlackBerry browser that includes a just-in-time JavaScript compiler and HTML 5 video support.
BlackBerry 7 OS also brings support for new technologies, including NFC (near field communications) and augmented reality applications. Voice-enabled search and 720p HD video recording also make their debut on the new OS.
The new Bolds and the BlackBerry 7 OS will launch this summer, but unfortunately, RIM said current devices won't be upgradeable to the new OS due to hardware restrictions.

No Android Apps or Flash Support for Blackberry 7
Most of us remember the hype surrounding RIM’s BlackBerry Playbook and how it’s QNX OS would allow users to load Android apps for use on the tablet. I know how excited some of my developer friends were about this possible new prospect. Given the similarities between Android’s Dalvik VM and RIM’s Java based system it seemed like an easy transition. However, the Playbook was eventually released without the touted Android capabilities to many people’s dismay. Fast forward to today where RIM announced the details of their new BlackBerry 7 OS and although many hoped it would offer some core features from the QNX operating system (Android app compatibility?) – it fell short. RIM officially confirmed today that there will be no Android apps (or even Flash for that matter) on the new soon to be released BlackBerry 7 OS update.
However, Android apps aren’t entirely off the table just yet. According to RIM’s vice president of handheld software product management, Andrew Bocking, the new QNX OS may soon come to handhelds, the only problem is they will need to feature a dual-core processor which RIM doesn’t offer at the moment. He did mention they are hard at work on a more portable cellphone version of the OS and although nowhere near ready you can expect to hear more about it later this year.

BlackBerry OS 7 browser beats iOS, Android browsers
The new BlackBerry OS 7 listed browser improvements as one of its major selling points. Some benchmarks from RIM show impressive results – the browser bests Mobile Safari and the Android Browser at JavaScript and page loading times. Tests were run on the new BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900, which went head to head with the iPhone 4, Google Nexus One and Nexus S. An old BlackBerry running the BB OS6 with the old web browser was used as well.
The new browser in BB OS 7 loads pages 1.6 times faster than the one in the previous version – 7.8 seconds to load a page on average versus 12.4 seconds for the old version. Panning and zooming is much faster too, says RIM though they didn’t provide numbers for that.
The JavaScript engine, which got a JIT compiler, flew past the mobile browsers on iOS and Android. The BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 ran the Sunspider benchmark in 2.84 seconds (lower is better), while an iPhone 4 passed it in 3.23s, the two Google droids posted times between 5 and 6 seconds and finally, the BlackBerry OS 6 browser did it in 10.8 seconds.
Of course, what RIM neglected to mention is that all things equal, the Bold Touch 9900 has a 20% advantage in pure clock speed – its Qualcomm CPU runs at 1.2GHz, while the rest of the competition have their run at 1GHz (and the old Berry runs at much lower speeds of course).
Still, the results are very impressive and hands-on reports say that the browser is lightning fast in general, not just in JavaScript benchmarks.

RIM Sold 150 Million Phones In 12 Years, 15 Million Last Quarter
I don’t often like to post “numbers” news since we’re hardware guys, but this particular stat sticks out: Mike Lazaridis just reported that BlackBerry sold 150 million phones in the past 12 years and sold 15 million last quarter. To put this into perspective, Nokia shipped 108.5 million mobile devices in Q1 2011 while AT&T alone sold 3.6 million iPhones last quarter. Like the baby bear’s bowl of porridge, RIM isn’t too hot nor is it too cold. Some would say, in fact, that those sales are just right or, barring that, tepid.
There are plenty of reasons RIM will last out this decade and there are plenty of reasons – namely the rise of Android devices – that it won’t. However, I worry that the 15 million number will dwindle as business consumers get more choice and more options. End-to-end security isn’t important when you have, for example, secure webmail or a secure connection to a web app.
That said, the new Bold is quite handsome. I hope it’s enough to keep crackberry enthusiasts, well, enthused.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 Officially Announced
BlackBerry World gets started in earnest tomorrow, and ahead of the show, RIM has announced the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 that we’ve been hearing about for so very long. You might recognize the form factor as a lot like the old 9000, but the big difference here is that the screen is now touch-sensitive, along with some other much-needed updates under the hood. The updated OS is indeed labeled as 7, and includes voice-activated search, corporate/personal separation of data through Balance, new productivity apps preloaded, and the browser has a few enhancements, with HTML5 video, and “Liquid Graphics”. The device itself sports a near-field communications chip for tap-and-go payments, and a magnetic compass to support augmented reality apps.

BlackBerry Torch 2 Leaked With 1.2Ghz Processor – Q3 AT&T Release
The second generation of so called the “best generation of BlackBerry”, the Torch 2 has managed to find its way to the internet. It will have the exact same physical form. However, there’s external changes which will effect overall performance of the device. The folks from BGR has managed to obtain the Torch 2 full specs. We now have the rumored specs for a device that looks almost exactly like the BLackBerry Torch but with a silver finish. It includes features like a 1.2Ghz processor (Finally!!!) along with a VGA screen, 8GB memory, NFC, and more. It only has 512 MB of RAM which is odd but I guess you cannot have everything.
Other things worthy of noting are the HSPA 14.4 data connection which will make the device scream on the latest “4G” HSPA networks. Oddly the device still has a 1300mAh battery so I have no idea how it will last all day with this beefed up processor. I was asking for RIM to double the processor speed AND the battery size to accommodate it but I guess they found a way to do one without the other!

BlackBerry Curve 3G Review: A Slight Update to a Successful Product Line
The BlackBerry Curve 3G is the latest device in the BlackBerry Curve series and the best part about it is that it has 3G and is BlackBerry 6 ready. The Curve product line has always been the most accessible of all the BlackBerry models because of its low price point and popular form factor. he Curve 3G fits nicely into this series because it has everything you would expect from a Curve but just a little more spec-wise to make it fit for 2010. According to RIM, the Curve 3G is “designed the growing mass of smartphone purchasers with a distinctly powerful, approachable and affordable choice”.

Zer01 Mobile Everything Unlimited Plan from July 1st
Zer01 Communications, a Las Vegas, NV based mobile communications company, has officially launched its new Zer01 Mobile true unlimited voice and data mobile service at the CTIA Wireless 2009. Priced at $69.95 per month without contracts, Zer01 Mobile’s will start offering its new service from July 1, 2009.Treating all phone calls as data packet, the company routes all phone calls with its proprietary VoIP system, which requires a software to be installed on the phone to handle a secure connection between the phone and Zer01 backend servers. As a result, Zer01 Mobile will initially be available on Windows Mobile smartphones, however support for other devices such as Blackberry, Android and iPhone will be available within months.

Shazam today announced the availability of its unique application for BlackBerry smartphone users; allowing them to discover, purchase and share music anywhere they go. Shazam is able to identify music anywhere: from the radio, TV, film, or in a store by simply holding a BlackBerry smartphone towards the music and selecting ‘Tag Now’. From the returned results, you can check the details and purchase the music directly from the phone. The application is available for 60 days trial, follow by a $4.99 one-time fee. Alternatively, if users prefer they can continue Shazaming for free on a limited feature and tagging basisShazam identifies and provides information to the user about the track, artist and album from its ever-expanding music database; currently consisting of over 8 million tracks, including the largest collection of undiscovered music and pre-release tracks.

BlackBerry Storm Soon to Arrive in Canada
It looks like Bell and Telus will be the ones enjoying the arrival of the BlackBerry Storm, and probably at the about the same time. This information has reached us after an email has been sent out to those signing up for updates, in which the device is described as the first BlackBerry touchscreen smartphone ever. Also there, it is said that Canada is the place to be, should you wish to purchase this specific phone.In any case, real excitement is now in order, as the release has been made official, with the further mention that Telus is already open for orders. Since there must be many out there thrilled by the news, this could be a right time they saw the other side of this Storm mobile as well.
BlackBerry Storm is a very fun and well built mobile, but it would seem that it also comes with some, most likely unwanted, flaws that might just represent a deal-breaker. First, as rumors claim, this phone has serious Wi-Fi connection problems, meaning that not only can you not connect to broadbrand, but you will also probably need a long time to accept the truth. While this issue could be seen as the worst yet, it is just the tip of the iceberg.
Other rumors make of this phone a very slow software device, in that, while it sometimes offers you the speed it should be equipped with, it also blocks for a noticeable period like, for instance, when moving from music tasks to games. Moreover, claims have that it is not in the best shape concerning the battery either, as it becomes too hot to touch when left plugged in for too long. Battery life is yet another major letdown, it has been claimed. Next up, whereas the touchscreen capabilities are spectacular, making for a part of the Storm that does not disappoint, the actual keypad is not that proportionate, which makes it extremely hard to type anything.
Although most of the good things we have heard about the Storm are probably true, somehow it seems that this Blackberry was not in development for as long as it should have been, from where a certain feeling that it has been designed in a rush to catch the holiday season emerges.
In any case, even if it turns out to be an incredible phone that will enjoy great success, you should still take a look at reviews of it before spending about $649.99 free of contract on it, on December 18, when it should be launched.
