Nokia N9 Won't Be Released in UK Either
Following yesterday's confirmation from Nokia that the N9 smartphone won't be released in the United States, the Finnish company made another statement, this time regarding the handset's launch in UK.
Although the phone has been spotted recently at Expansys UK and is now available for pre-order, it looks like Nokia does not have any plans to launch the N9 in the UK either.

Nokia N8 pinks up with Symbian “Anna”
Nokia is rolling out a pink version of its 12-megapixel N8 handset...with Symbian "Anna," an update to Symbian^3 with improvements based on user feedback.
Finland’s Nokia might be hard at work laying off employees, passing off Symbian to Accenture, and cranking away on a future family of Windows Phone devices, but the company still has to keep its current product line fresh an active if it wants to remain the top handset maker in the world. As part of that effort, the company has introduced a new version of the Nokia N8 smartphone: the device still sports a 12-megapixel camera with HD video capability and Nokia’s range of Ovi services, but now it will some with Symbian “Anna,” an update to Symbian^3 with improvements based largely on customer feedback. And it’ll be available in pink.
“Following the fantastic response to the range of colors we launched for the Nokia N8, it seemed a natural step to extend this choice,” said Nokia senior designer Rachael Bell. “The Nokia N8 in pink complements the original line up well with its expressive, intense hue.”
Nokia began shipping the N8 back in mid-2010, and the new version of doesn’t change the hardware: the device still sports a 12-megapixel camera (with HD video capability), HDMI output, a 3.5 AMOLED screen, 16 GB of onboard storage (plus microSD removable storage), integrated Wi-Fi, assisted GPS navigation, and the full gamut of Ovi services (like Ovi Maps) to help people get through their complicated lives.
The Symbian “Anna” update features “real” home screen scrolling, an onscreen QWERTY keyboard that works in portrait orientation, an improved Web browser, a significant update to Ovi Maps (including predictive search), and “new iconography.”
Unfortunately, while Nokia is touting the pink edition of the N8, the company hasn’t offered any details about pricing or availability. If pressed, we would guess it would appear in markets where Nokia already has the N8 in channel with carrier partners…which means the United States would be low on the list.

Nokia launches the Nokia 6210s in Korea
Nokia today announced it will start to sell WCDMA 3G mobile devices in Korea. The first model to be launched in Korea is the Nokia 6210s. “The Nokia 6210s is an ideal device to kick-start Nokia’s portfolio in Korea. It is a competitively priced smartphone with a slide form factor that is very popular in this market,” said Colin Giles, Senior Vice President, Greater China, Japan and Korea, Nokia.The Nokia 6210s is based on S60 software. It features a 3.2 megapixel camera, an MP3 player, video playback and a stereo FM radio. Photographs can be taken in panoramic mode and can also be uploaded to Flickr. The Nokia 6210s comes with a 1GB memory card in box.
The Nokia 6210s has a retail price of KRW 396,000 and will be sold through KTF shops and is available now.

8208, a new CDMA cellular phone coming from Nokia
The last handheld officially presented by Nokia at the Mobile World Congress 2009 is the 8208 CDMA cellular phone, a device that first appeared a couple of weeks ago, sometime in January.The bad thing about the Nokia 8208 is the fact that it’s targeted to CDMA markets outside the United States. Why is that? We don’t know. But I suppose that the Finnish company has a very powerful reason for such a decision, and we shouldn’t blame them for something we don’t know.
The dual-slider is part of the mid-end category, being the perfect alternative for people who aren’t into smartphones that are able to sing and dance and prepare your breakfast each and every morning.
As far as the features are concerned, they include: dual band CDMA/EV-DO connectivity (800/1900 MHz), a 2.2 inch display with a resolution of 240x320 pixels and 16 million colors, a 3 megapixel camera with flash, the Nokia S40-like user interface, GPS functionality, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, 3.5 mm headset jack, FM radio, dedicated music buttons, an internal memory of 150MB which can be expanded through a microSD card of no more than 16GB (there’s a 1GB microSD card included).
The CDMA cellular phone measures 101 x 45.2 x 15.9 millimeters and weighs approximately 126.3 grams. Its battery provides up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 11 days of stand-by time.
“We instinctively wanted to carry out a very modern look and feel in the design of our new devices, and to bring consumers a wide range of features”, said Larry Paulson, Nokia Senior Vice President, CDMA devices. In addition, he said that “Consumers want devices that are beautiful to look at and reflect their individuality, but also have the functionality that keeps them connected to their world easily. This device echoes our goal to broaden the Nokia portofolio of high tech, yet stylish devices in select global CDMA markets”.The Nokia 8208 is expected to become available by the end of the first quarter of this year.

N86, the 8 megapixel Nokia slider phone
It seems that Nokia wanted to prolong as much as possible the agony of those who were waiting for the first ever 8 megapixel Finnish cell phone. If the first day of the Mobile World Congress came as a disappointment as far as the highly anticipated release is concerned, the second has finally brought the official announcement.The full name of the first 8 megapixel handheld is Nokia N86 8MP and it’s part of the Nseries smartphones family, being a dual-slider quite similar with another device that you’re already familiar with: the N85.
There is no doubt about the fact that the most important feature of this Nokia slider phone is the 8 megapixel camera which, combined with a wide-angle Carl Zeiss optics, converts the phone into one of the “best mobile imaging device”, irrespective of the light conditions.
Now, as far as the official features of the Nokia N86 8MP, they include: quad band GSM/EDGE connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), tri band HSDPA connectivity (850/1900/2100 MHz or 900/1900/2100 MHz), a 2.6 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 240x320 pixels and 16 million colors (it isn’t touch sensitive, but it comes with resistance to scratches), the Symbian S60 3rd Edition operating system, Feature Pack 2, GPS and assisted GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, an integrated compass, Wi-Fi, HTML browser, dedicated music and N-Gage keys, 3.5 mm headset jack, FM radio with RDS, FM transmitter, stereo speakers, full PC synchronization, an internal memory of 8GB and a microSD card slot for expandable memory of no more than 16GB.Measuring 103.4 x 51.4 x 16.5 millimeters and weighing approximately 149 grams, the Nokia slider phone provides up to 6.3 hours of talk time, up to 312 hours of stand-by time, up to 25 hours of music playback and up to 7 hours of gaming.

Nokia N97 Review
So, guess what Nokia came up with as a follow up for their Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Touchscreen phone? The Nokia N97, a Google G1 phone look-alike that sports a 3.5 inch touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.Design
The Nokia N97 looks like a cross between a lot of different phones from the iPhone to the Google G1 Phone to the AT&T Tilt (HTC TyTN II). Up front, the Nokia N97's 3.5 inch screen dominates the whole front of the phone except for the little button on the bottom left side corner which serves as the shortcut key to the N series multimedia applications. The call and end buttons are touch sensitive like ROKR E8. On the top of the Nokia N97 is the 3.5mm headphone jack and the power button. The Nokia N97 is just a tad bit larger and thicker than the iPhone and when you slide out the QWERTY keypad, you're reminded of the HTC TyTN II with it's angled screen. The Nokia N97 feels solid enough to hold though it just feels a bit too large especially if you have small hands. The QWERTY keypad is evenly spaced and you won't have trouble typing nor would you have to worry about pressing two buttons at a time. The buttons are very minimal compared with other QWERTY keypads from HTC or Blackberry. I guess this is to make room for the directional pad on the left side. The sliding mechanism feels solid enough though I'm a bit worried about the hinge that connects the screen and the keypad since it looks thin and breakable.
Features and PerformanceThe performance of the Nokia N97 is based purely on the demo version but I have to say I'm quite impressed. It looks like Nokia has fine tuned the Symbian OS to work well with touchscreen. On the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, you won't get much of the swiping and flicking finger action but they've refined it so that you can get that much out of the Nokia N97. Also, compared with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic demo version, the Nokia N97 interface is quite fast and responsive. You can barely see any hiccup on the accelerometer transition or when you're navigating the Symbian OS. The user interface on the Nokia N97 is also quite new but is still very user-friendly. Like I said, it's touch optimized and there are a lot of widgets you can play with. The built-in browser also looks promising though I wasn't able to see if it supports YouTube desktop PC version. Scrolling through webpages isn't as smooth and fluid as when you're surfing the Safari Browser on the iPhone but the webpages renders quickly though I don't know if that's because the pages that the person demonstrating the phone is already saved and bookmarked on the phone's memory.
The Nokia N97 also supports TV Out, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio, and a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. If the camera on the Nokia N97 is as good as that on the Nokia N95 then I'm sure that the Nokia N97 won't have any problems when it comes to its camera software. The Nokia N97 runs on Quadband GSM networks and supports 3G/HSDPA.
It's just too bad that Nokia decided to go with Resistive touchcreen instead of capacitive like that on the iPhone. I'm sure with a bit of development, they'll be able to come up with a lot of good applications that can make use of capacitive touchscreen.
OutlookHmm, looks like Nokia got it right on their second try. I like the Nokia N97 better than their Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and I hope that they'll be able to incorporate the user interface of the N97 on the 5800 XpressMusic though I highly doubt that since the Nokia N97 is aimed at the high end market while the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic borders on the midrange to high-end phone segment. From the looks of the demo version, the Nokia N97 looks promising enough. It's fast and responsive. I don't know what processor or RAM they've used on this device but I guess they were able to make use of the new Symbian OS. All in all, it looks like the iPhone, Google G1 Phone and the Blackberry Storm has a new competitor to watch out for. And knowing that there are a lot of Nokia fanatics, I think that the Nokia N97 will definitely take a large part of the smartphone market.

Now official, Nokia’s 6208c with the ‘bamboo’ stylus
Seems Nokia started bombarding the phone market with their touch-screen phones. Nokia 6208c, which is unveiled in Nanjing China today, is the company’s fourth touchscreen devices after Nokia 7700/7710 (2003), N810 Internet Tablet (2007) and Nokia 5800 Xpress Music (2008).With the large input area, the touch screen on this device is optimized to write Chinese characters and expected to hit select markets in the first half of 2009.

In an event held today in Nanjing Nokia unveiled the Nokia 6208c, a new pen input device which caters for a number of different customers, specifically those in China. The touch screen on the 6208c is optimized to write Chinese characters and messages in the most natural way, with a pen.
The design of the stylus, attached to the back of the phone, is inspired by bamboo slips and works perfectly with the large color display which is reminiscent of an ink stone, another element from traditional Chinese art and culture. All these design cues are implemented using premium materials such as the stainless steel back cover, which makes the handset both easy to use and comfortable to hold.
Added to the Chinese language support, the device features a number of different languages and characters.
With a 3.2 megapixel camera, dual LED flash and 4x digital zoom, the Nokia 6208c makes capturing memories and sharing moments simple and easy. Few weeks ago we wrote about the new firmware being available for the Nokia N96. Well, the same firmware is now also available for the NAM version (N96-3 NAM - RM-472) of the N96, allowing users in North America to update their beloved smartphone and consequently make the device more stable.Changes/improvements made from MCU SW v11 to v12 include:
* Switch 4.0 - improved switch application to transfer user data from/to other devices
* Still image quality is improved, with fixes for color haziness and motion blur that appeared under certain conditions
* Improved overall Bluetooth interoperability

This is the weirdest image of a concept cell phone I’ve seen in quite a while. Despite being disturbing on so many levels, this Nokia gun cell phone is just a photoshopped image.
