Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro Now Available for Free in the UK
Available for pre-order in the UK for quite a while, the Xperia mini pro has just been put on sale via several major retailers.
Currently, Android fans living in UK will be able to grab it for free on select plans from Carphone Warehouse and Mobiles.co.uk. Carphone Warehouse offers the Xperia mini pro for free from £20.42 per month, which will offer customers 300 minutes, 300 texts, and unlimited mobile data.
In addition, Mobiles.co.uk, a subsidiary of the Carphone Warehouse, is offering the Xperia mini pro for free from just £8.51 per month, including 300 minutes, 300 texts and 500MB of data.
Both online retailers are offering the Xperia mini pro with Orange, Vodafone and T-Mobile UK select plans.
The Xperia mini pro hits the UK market a few days after its Xperia mini sibling was officially launched by Sony Ericsson.
However, unlike the standard Xperia mini, the mini pro offers heavy texters and messaging fanatics a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
The Xperia mini pro is equipped with a 1 Ghz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor, which is complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU (graphics processing unit).
Furthermore, the slider comes with a 3-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 320 x 480 pixels resolution, which is based on Sony's BRAVIA engine technology.
Among the strong points of the Xperia mini pro, Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform offers users the ultimate communication experience.
It is also worth mentioning that the Xperia mini pro sports a 5-megapixel camera on the back, allowing users to capture and record HD videos.
The phone's main camera features LED flash, autofocus, image stabilization, as well as smile and face detection.
Connectivity options include features such as HSDPA (7.2Mbps) and HSUPA (5.76Mbps), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support and built-in GPS.

Sony Ericsson WT18i budget Walkman phone leaks in China
It looks like the Sony Ericsson Walkman line of phones is coming back to life. A new popped up out shortly after the official announcement of Sony Ericsson W8. This time, it is labeled (at least for the time being) WT18i. Much like the W8, the specs of the device suggest that it will be a youth-oriented, budget priced handset. The processor of the device is Marvell PXA 920, clocked at 806 MHz and the HVGA screen measures 3.2". The device will have 150MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot (up to 32GB cards will be supported.
A 3 MP camera with 480p video recording will have to do for the user's photography needs, while the front-facing camera enables video-calls. This functionality will come in a compact package weighing only 110 grams.
Interestingly enough, the OS is listed as "OMS 2.5", which should be based on Android 2.2 Froyo. The OS of choice and the TD-SCDMA network support show that this particular version is China bound, but a worldwide version seems quite possible too.
There is no info on a release date or pricing yet. The homescreen on the phone in the picture shows 09-24-2011, which might be a hint by the company. We will surely let you know as soon as we find out.

Sony Ericsson Xperia acro announced in Japan
Sony Ericsson is bringing its flagship Xperia arc smartphone to Japan. However, since we’re talking about the Land of the rising Sun, some tweaks here and there were required to appeal to the tech-savvy Japanese users. That said, the arc has a new name in Japan – acro, but we’re talking about pretty much the same device, which prides itself with a large 4.2-inch Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine, 8.1-megapixel camera with “Exmor R for mobile” technology that enables capturing of low-noise, high quality images and 720p HD video, even in low light. Moreover, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity also comes included, as well as an array of “standard for Android” sensors such as GPS, accelerometer, compass and so on. Android 2.3 Gingerbread is running the show with Sony Ericsson’s own UI singing on top of it.
As for the differences, the Japanese version of the arc rocks mobile TV functionality and infrared port for data sharing between two devices. Furthermore, there’s the mobile wallet functionality, which allows users to use the acro to pay for a wide range of services and digital or hard goods.
Sony Ericsson Xperia acro will be available in Japan from this summer in Black and White.

Sony Ericsson Idou coming in October 09
As stated by Stephen Groshi, Product Manager of Sony Ericsson in Germany, the 12 MP touch cameraphone Idou will be released in October (or November) this year. This device will be running the new version of OS Symbian, which is based on the S60 platform and UIQ. Sony Ericsson Idou camera will be the first in a series of Entertainment Unlimited. This smartphone is not narrowly cameraphone specified, it is also designed for listening to music, playing games, work with social networks and video footage.Interestingly, according to the words of Gustav Brusvitza of the Swiss department of Sony Ericsson, Idou is due in the second half of this year. Of course, this does not contradict the first statement, but Brusvitz for some reason does not specify the time of release.

The Mobinnova ICE Windows Mobile Phone
Mobinnova, a Taiwan-based company that teamed up with Sony Ericsson in order to produce a new version of the Xperia, has just announced a brand new handset which is said to be their flagship smartphone. Maybe this is a surprise for some of you, but Mobinnova is indeed a company that has its own mobile phones as well.Released under the name of Mobinnova ICE, the Windows Mobile-based smartphone works with the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 professional and is provided with a 528 Mhz Qualcomm MSM7201ATM chipset. But this isn’t everything about this device, so pay a little bit of attention to what I’ve got to say.
The features of the Mobinnova ICE include: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz and WCDMA/HSPA 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHZ, a 3 inch WQVGA TFT-LCD touchscreen, a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and a dedicated shutter control and a second camera which is especially designed for video calling, memory of 256 MB ROM and 128 RAM with the possibility of expanding it with microSD card (with SDHC support), an integrated FM radio with RDS and RBDS function, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity with EDR / A2DP and an integrated GPS and aGPS.

Xmini, the newest Sony Ericsson walkman phone
Maybe Sony Ericsson isn’t the most ingenious innovator in the world of mobile phones, but people are surely having great expectations as far as this company is concerned. Thus, the guys over Sony Ericsson have just released in the Japanese market a weird device, maybe the weirdest of them all, the Sony Ericsson Xmini. And if some would think this is just another Walkman, let me tell that the Xmini is, in fact, a Walkman phone.Part of KDDI au’s range of CDMA-based devices, this is far from the latest mobile phones that the Japanese people are used to in the last months, equipped with high-class features such as 800x480 display or a 5-megapixel camera. Still, the Xmini is similar to a Walkman player when it’s closed, but once it slides, you can see the alphanumeric keypad that reminds you of what the device really is: a phone.
Measuring 75 x 44 x 18 millimeters and weighing approximately 75 grams, the newest Sony Ericsson walkman phone was designed to be pocket-friendly. Apart from the regular features, the Xmini is provided with a set of dedicated music keys that are places somewhere below the display. They are hidden and they can be revealed only when you want to control the Walkman player.As far as the features are concerned, they include a 1.8-inch TFT display with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels, an unbelievable 8-megapixel QVGA camera, clear stereo sound, CDMA and Bluetooth for connectivity, email support, 4GB of internal memory.
It seems that Sony Ericsson Xmini will be launched only in Japan, being carried by KDDI. This means it will be compatible with KDDI services, including the LISMO Video and EZ ‘Chazu Uta’ for audio downloads. The walkman phone is expected to be released sometime before Christmas, but unfortunately there is no information about the price. Sony Ericsson Brittany, Walkman Phone Coming Next Year
Actually, the Swedish-Japanese company, as it was first introduced, is in fact working on an entire line of walkman phones for next year. Moreover, for the first half of 2009, it might just represent the main attraction. In any case, Sony fans will probably be extra thrilled with this new appearance.
The Brittany is said to taken over for the W380, which, for some reason, has been left out completely. Although there isn't much information regarding this new walkman project, it already seems to better all other such appearances.
This clamshell device should not be regarded as a regular phone for it features several outstanding, some would say, specs. Among them would be the QVGA (320x240 pixel) screen, and the three specially designed music buttons, which are all meant to make the device easy to manage and even easier to enjoy. In addition, it will pack a 3.2 Megapixel camera, which we must admit is a more than satisfactory one considering the type of device we're dealing with, and a highly advanced Walkman 3.0 music playback software.
Other than this, there isn't much relevant information available, but from the looks of things, Sony is really doing its best to please its music fans. Most voices are already saying that the Brittany is all set to become the more affordable version of the W980. On top of all this, some of you might be happy to hear that it will also come in a large variety of colors, thus allowing you to customize your phone as you best like it.
If you're even a bit thrilled about this walkman phone, know that a fixed date for its release has not been set yet, but since rumors are saying it will drop in the second quarter of 2009, there's plenty of time for several updates regarding this mobile.

Since we began with the design, let's say that its measurements of 104x47x15mm are quite appealing and, despite the kind of old-looking lines, which are actually a trademark for Sony by now, the phone shows it means business from the start. Furthermore, some unusual keypad features are also present, which may be seen as fancy looking by some, or simply as a change worth considering from most other phones out there.
Weighing 95g, the K660i is not likely to be very successful among adults, but when it comes to youngsters, the device might just turn out to be a hit.
This lime white version offers just the exact amount of capabilities for a client purchasing its first, maybe second, mobile ever. On the other hand, if you don't need too advanced technology, then this is for you as well. Adding the Bluetooth support, the navigation key and the fact that it comes at a great price and even better mobile tariff plans, it seems like an opportunity you should consider before it's too late. The tariff plans are highly diversified, so it is most likely that you will find one to suit you best. Moreover, should you consider the prices circulated in this business, the decision will probably become much easier.

Sony Ericsson T303 Daisy Edition
Products, whatever the domain might be, have the right to behave on market in the manner they “please”, when competing with similar “entities”. They are not all meant to succeed; more than that, some of them disappoint their creators, despite the fact that, at a first glance, nobody would have guessed such a thing. When tragedies happen, marketing departments try their best in finding what went wrong. Sometimes, there’s a chance for those products to be improved, in order to reach the spotlight.Take Sony Ericsson T303 for example. The device was first announced in the first quarter of 2008, sometime in March, and didn’t knock down its rivals whatsoever. Yes, it’s a small device, indeed, and is provided with a lightweight case that has only 93 grams, but no more than that.
The device was designed as an entry-level phone, equipped with a basic set of features, so it didn’t have the premises to become an important and stunning player.Given the context, in order to increase sales of the T303, the guys over Sony Ericsson came up with the idea of customizing the exterior of the device. The result is an entry-level slider with some daisies on the back case that will be known under the name of – guess what? – Sony Ericsson T303 Daisy Edition. The device will be sold exclusively by T-Mobile for an amount of £49.99, meaning $75.
The Sony Ericsson T303 “has soft edges, metal details and a mirror glass display”. As far as the features are concerned, the phone is equipped with tri-band GSM/GPRS, 1.8-inches 128x160 TFT display, a 1.3 megapixel camera with zoom (which isn’t impressive), MP3 ringtones, Bluetooth, which enables hands-free connection and file sharing, FM radio, Java games and 8MB of internal memory.Weighing 93 grams and measuring 83x47x15 millimeters, the phone provides up to 9 hours of talk time and up to 400 hours of stand-by time, while the charge time is of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Sony Ericsson Hikaru. To be or not to be?
If you’re the “I’ve seen it and I’ve already forgot it” type of guy, then you must have went beyond the Xperia X1 phase, even if the arc-slider smartphone with Windows Mobile 6.1 Operating System is still considered by some a new device, as it was first presented at the 2008 Mobile World Congress. Maybe you’re not, I wouldn’t know, but pay a little bit of attention to what I have to say: Sony Ericsson is getting ready to release a new touchscreen handset that will bring 8 GB of internal memory and an 8 megapixel camera.Sony Ericsson Labs are leaking phones on a daily basis, so according to the SEMC Blog, the handset which was codenamed Hikaru, a common Japanese term used for both males and females, will be the next high-end slider of the Swedish-Japanese manufacturer. Because everyone seems to just love the touchscreens these days. There are lots of devices like the HTC Touch Diamond, LG Vu, BlackBerry Storm the iPhone 3G, or even the recent Nokia Tube, that has just made its official debut.
For the moment, it’s not clear where Hikaru will fit into Sony Ericsson’s range of products. Will it be a Walkman, a Cyber-shot or perhaps a G-series? This is one thing people would really love to find out, but they would also like to know whether the keyboard will be an alphanumeric or a QWERTY one.
While there is yet to be a formal announcement on the matter, it seems that the Sony Ericsson Hikaru will be the company’s official competitor to the iPhone and other similar devices. There are no real details or shots yet, except that it will sport a slider form factor. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about this one soon, so stay tuned and see if Hikaru will be a real handset.

Mobile Event Guide from Sony Ericsson
Yesterday, in London, Sony Ericsson proudly presented its Mobile Event Guide, a free mobile application that allows sport fans to access all the information about a sports program, local travel and tourism information, and that is updated via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. The application will be launched for the first time at the Sony Ericsson Championships, the “prestigious season ending women's tennis event,” as the official announcement said.
Speaking of the new service, CVP and Head of Global Communications and PR, Sony Ericsson, Aldo Liguori, said, “Sony Ericsson continually strives for new ways of using its technical innovation to enhance the experience for those attending Sony Ericsson sponsored events. The Mobile Event Guide will enable fans at the Sony Ericsson Championships in Doha to access an easy-to-use, free service offering an indispensable guide to the tournament and city. We look forward to rolling out the application in the future for a variety of spectator events.”
The application runs on the Java platform, and is self-contained, meaning users don't need to keep their data connection on all day long. This is because by using wireless technology, Mobile Event Guide users can choose to receive live feeds and up to minute information. If not, the application will update itself every time users enter the stadium in Doha. Actually, the first time they do so, they will be greeted with a message from Sony Ericsson, inviting them to download the app via Bluetooth.
Speaking of which, most mobile phones with Bluetooth functionalities are compatible with the application, thus users will be able to download the version of Mobile Event Guide suited for their mobiles at the Sony Ericsson kiosks on the stadium.
In all fairness, the application does sound to be useful for sport fans, especially for those that will attend the Sony Ericsson Championships.

Sony Ericsson W760a Available on AT&T
Yesterday, AT&T and Sony Ericsson announced the W760a, the first 3G Walkman phone in the US. The device is designed to deliver users the best of on-the-go entertainment and, of course, a unique music experience. W760a also features an accelerometer, thus users will be able to interact more with the device through movements.The accelerometer will allow users to shake or tilt the phone to fast forward to the next song, and also to simulate motion when playing a game. Also, the new Walkman comes with A and B dedicated gaming buttons, for extra control and interactivity while playing games.
"Why use buttons when motion can guide mobile entertainment?" Vice President of Devices and Product Development for AT&T's wireless operations, Carlton Hill, said. "Whether using the W760a to play a bowling game by mimicking the action or simply shaking it to listen to the next song in your playlist, the W760a can follow your lead."
"We're excited to offer a full portfolio of Walkman™ devices at a variety of price points for a broad range of users and are excited about the continued growth of our relationship with AT&T." Sony Ericsson's North America President, Najmi Jarwala, said. "With the availability of the W760a Walkman™ phone, U.S. consumers now have a full range of Walkman™ devices to choose from that fit their budget, their style and meet their desire for mobile phones that provide a robust entertainment experience." he further explained.
The W760a features include full HTML Web Browsing, a 3.2 MP camera, AT&T Navigator, aside from Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0, which the 3G Walkman delivers. Another thing worth mentioning about this phone is that it's designed for worldwide use, being a quad band.
For 129.00USD and a two-year agreement after the mail-in rebate, the phone is available for users in red, black and silver color options. For those that don't like commitment, the phone is sold for 279.99USD contract-free.

Sony Ericsson Rika, the new walkman phone which inherit the design of Sony Ericsson G705, is to be named as W705 according to the official phone profile xml document. The slider phone’s specification will be similar to the G705 too with a 240 x 320 display screen, 3.2 megapixel camera, built in WiFi and aGPS. Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 shows up on FCC minus 1700MHz support
Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 smartphone has shown up on the FCC's website recently. According to the documents available, the device was tested only for AT&T's 1900MHz UMTS network band, with no mention of the 1700MHz and 850MHz bands found in the filing. The original specs for the device at launch time listed two quad-band UMTS versions: 850/1700/1900/2100MHz and 900/1700/1900/2100MHz. The lack of 1700MHz in the filings means that this is A) likely not the X1 for the Americas that we have been waiting for (known as the X1a), and B) Sony Ericsson might have dropped 1700MHz AWS support from at least the European version of the X1.Update: Sony Ericsson has confirmed that neither version of the X1 will offer support for UMTS on the AWS frequency bands used by T-Mobile USA in spite of what the original product launch press release stated.
The Xperia X1 packs a slide-out QWERTY keyboard beneath its large WVGA (800x480 pixel) touchscreen display. The Xperia "panels" user interface lies on top of Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, providing a customized home screen experience. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 also features a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and video capture and a microSD card slot for extra storage. Sony Ericsson is expected to begin shipping the device in Europe very soon.

GreenHeart, the eco-friendly Sony Ericsson concept phone
The “eco-friendly” or “environmentally friendly” syntagms are synonyms used to refer to goods and services considered to inflict minimal harm on the environment. A widely spread law of economy says that needs are infinite while resources are limited, and therefore scarce. That’s why, each time a certain invention is brought to light, the first thing we should worry about must be the influence its appearance will have on the environment.Taking care of the world we live in should be an individual task for each and every one of us, but also part of the corporate social responsibility of each company’s politics. We shouldn’t be surprised that more and more companies rely their success on them being involved in crucial issues of the moment.
Given the context, Sony Ericsson joins the team of those who stand for an eco-friendly evolution of the mankind, shaking hands with Samsung who introduced its corn-based Samsung E200 Eco cellphone and Nokia who had the idea of an Nokia Eco Sensor concept device. The company recently announced the launch of its environmentally friendly handset called the GreenHeart. Unfortunately, the cellphone might not ever reach the mass production and we should be satisfied with all the promises invading the market nowadays. GreenHeart incorporates a bunch of green technologies that people would love to see in the stores over the coming years, especially because the ideas it is based on are totally logical and could be executed today.
The device has a pretty decent life cycle due to its bio-plastic housing and recycled plastic materials keypads, the zero charger with 3.5mW standby power and the HTML-based electronic manuals, in order to diminish the number of cut down trees for paper. In addition, the phone comes in an even “greener” package and features “Ecomate”, an educational application that looks much like a fun game.The whole point with these types of handsets is to minimize as much as it’s possible the impact a cell phone has on the environment. I’m not sure we’ll get to see the concept becoming reality, but Sony Ericsson has shared it with a few selected partners in the industry and got some extremely positive answers. The next step will consist on initiating a two-way conversation with costumers in order to find out which features they believe should be implemented in future phones and in what priority.
Steps like this one have been made before, but we should pray for a similar concept to finally see the light of the day, so that environmental sustainability wouldn’t be just dust in the wind.

Sony Ericsson G910 Concept Looks Hot, Feels Comfy
While LG are getting ready to announce the Prada II, the Sony Ericsson G910 would make a fine rival for the first generation of handsets branded with the fashion designer’s logo. Designed by J. Havrlant, this concept phone is both stylish and touch-friendly.
Its navigational pad beneath the screen seems fairly easy to use, while the rest of the buttons surrounding it are (or seem) touch sensitive. Sony Ericsson's New Cybershot Rumors
For some time now, leaked information about Sony Ericsson working on a new Cybershot model has been circulating on the Internet, and it seems that this fall, besides the Xperia X1, the Swedish-Japanese giant manufacturer also has a couple of mid/high-end devices in store for us. Apparently, the company is working on a k750 successor, codenamed Kate.Of course, there's little information available on this one but we have been able to find a few things about its specs along with some blurry photos, which might prove to be fake – still, we'll have to wait until the phone hits the market to see that.
Apparently, the phone comes with a 5 Megapixel camera with Xenon Flash (as seen in the photos), it's a bit thicker than Sony Ericsson's C902, has no GPS and no frontal camera for video calling, though it does have a light sensor, a switch button between Still & Video as well as a button to access gallery of recently taken images, Sony Ericsson’s Java Platform 8.4 and 'Smile Shutter' (without 'Smart Contrast'). It is expected to have at least EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA and also Bluetooth 2.0 (as found on many of SE's handhelds).
These are all the details we could find on Kate so far. The phone, judging by the features presented above, seems to be a mid-range one, and the price it will sell for is rumored to be somewhere between 300 USD and 450 USD, without a contract, of course.The only thing to do now is to wait for more news about Sony Ericsson's new Cybershot and see where and when it will land. The good part is that they say it's going to be released in October, so the waiting won't be long. The rumor could be backed up by the photos we found, if they are indeed real, though I guess only time will tell.

Sony Ericsson launches MBW-200 Bluetooth watches
Dear ladies, this is another stylish gadget for you. Sony Ericsson has announced the MBW-200, the female version of its MBW-150 Bluetooth watches.The Sony Ericsson MBW-200 wristwatches feature a small monochrome OLED display and connect to your cell phone via Bluetooth. The watch is then able to display your incoming caller ID, as well as alert you to new text messages, emails, and even calendar alarms.
Designed to only work with Sony Ericsson cell phones, it’s available in three distinct styles: Sparkling Allure, Contemporary Elegance and Evening Classic. Despite it’s aimed towards ladies, but I think it’s also nice used by gentlemen, isn’t it?
