Nokia Tube remastered, could be Nokia 5800 XpressMedia
The clever folks over at Nokia Port have deciphered the riddle behind Nokia’s new touchscreen phone, a.k.a. the “Nokia Tube”. In the rendered image pictured above, you can see what the Nokia Tube touchscreen phone might look like without the fuss. It’s got a lot of striking similarities to Apple’s iPhone, which I suspect cannot be helped anyway, since this is really a good design in the first place.But what’s most intriguing is the possibility that this will belong to a new product line, called XpressMedia, with a number designation of 5800.
By doing some digital imaging magic (OK, a little zooming in) on the Nokia Tube’s first photos, a Nokia Port user has apparently discovered that the words scribbled near the top of Nokia’s upcoming touchscreen wonder says “XpressMedia,” with a couple of more indecipherable characters following it to the right.
So from this day forth, I guess the official code name for Nokia’s iPhone killer will be Nokia 5800 Tube XpressMedia phone. It’s quite a mouthful, if you ask me, but it directly corresponds to this phones amazing features. The latest speculations about the Nokia 5800’s features bring in the same list of specs as the old ones:
Display:
* 3.2-inch Touchscreen
* Tactile feedback
* 640 x 360 pixels
* 16 million colors
Camera:
* 3.2-megapixels
* Autofocus
Net:
* Quad Band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
* EDGE
* UMTS
* HSDPA
* Bluetooth 2.0
* Wi-Fi
* Government inspection department (?)
* 3.5mm headphone jack
* TV Out
* Internal memory: 140 MT
* Dimensions: 111 x 52 x 14,5 mm
* Weight: 104 g
And as we earlier reported, this device will be available if not by the end of 2008, then by early 2009. And that’s not that long of a wait either. I think it’s just sufficiently long enough for you to save up in case you want to buy this phone, and also for Nokia to add in a few more extra features to make it better. Because after all, by the time this thing is released, iPhone 3.0 might as well be already in the works.
