Samsung T459 Breaks Cover for T-Mobile
T-Mobile USA will soon widen its collection of mobile phones made by Samsung, with an unofficially announced model, apparently called Samsung T459 or Samsung Holic.
Resembling the old but still popular LG Rumor and the Samsung Messager (an affordable handset recently launched in the US via both MetroPCS and Cricket), the new T459 will come with a full QWERTY keyboard that slides out horizontally, offering users an easy way of writing text messages and emails.
Since the T459 was not yet officially announced, there aren't too many details about it. However, a blurry image of the handset has appeared, together with some specs, over at TmoNews. Reportedly, the upcoming handset will bring features like a 2 Megapixel camera (probably sans auto focus), stereo Bluetooth, a screen that can display images both horizontally and vertically, plus T-Mobile's myFaves. No word yet about other features, like the built-in memory, Web capabilities or battery life-time.
Apparently, the Holic will be released to replace Samsung Blast, a 1.3 Megapixel camera phone that also features a QWERTY keypad and is currently offered by T-Mobile for free on a contract agreement. The new Samsung T459 should be on sale via T-Mobile starting November, hence it will probably be promoted as a good Christmas gift for users in need of a "made for texting" phone.
For the moment there are no clear details about the price of Samsung T459, but it's said the handset should not cost more than $50 with a two-year contract agreement and a mail-in rebate. Thus, it seems that T-Mobile's customers will soon have an affordable solution for texting and emailing on the go. Of course, lots of users are probably waiting for HTC's Android-running handset (called either Dream or G1), but since this one will be a little more expensive, T459's arrival can only represent good news.
