Samsung with InnoPath : Samsung U340 and Samsung U430
Samsung U340 and Samsung U430 are two new handsets available via Verizon Wireless featuring the FOTA technology, which enables firmware updates from the cell phone, with no re-flashing. In addition, the new models come with the InnoPath Mobile Device Management Client pre-installed, which couples with the special server to avoid device recalls and to permit over-the-air upgrades.
"The growing installed base of FOTA-enabled phones is evidence that this is a capability critical to both operators and to their handset vendor partners," said Terry Hartsfield, vice president of Operations for InnoPath. "The ease in which our OEM partners can port the client to new phones is testament to our end-to-end operational capabilities."
Samsung SCH-U340 is a flip phone with CDMA dual-band coverage, speakerphone, several messaging capabilities including picture sharing and sound sharing, and a simple built-in digital camera with up to 640 x 480 resolution for still pictures, autofocus and LED flash.
The mid-level cell phone has push-to-talk, Instant Messaging, MP3 player, Java, voice recognition, and basic applications including to-do lists, scheduler and world time.
Samsung SCH-U430 is also a flip-style cell phone, but with more advanced features than the previously described model. It has Bluetooth wireless connectivity, camera with self-timer, email functionality in addition to Instant Messaging, and in the rest it has the same elements as the Samsung U340.
The U340 is available for free with a 2-year contract and Verizon Wireless enables access to sports, news, traffic, weather forecast and horoscope via text alerts. The more advanced handset comes also with the VZ Navigator featuring audible turn-by-turn directions to let you find the best route to your destination. More than that, you can use this service to browser through millions of points-of-interest and get the best option for spending your free time alone or together with some friends in popular bars, restaurants and other social places.
