Rumored: AT&T to Sell BlackBerry Bold Starting With the Last Week of September

It looks like AT&T plans to finally launch the Bold in the last week of September. The rumored price is $299.00 after a $100 mail-in rebate and with an unmentioned-in-length contract. I don’t know about you but until I’ll see it, I won’t believe it.

Verizon’s UTStarcom XV6800 gets a Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade

Unfortunately, Verizon keeps locking some of the phone’s functionalities, hence even with the update if you need to use any location-based service, you’ll have to rely on the carrier’s VZ Navigator. Other third-party solutions just won’t work. Or that’s at least if you don’t go one step beyond what’s officially permitted and hack the hell out of your smartphone. Afterwards Garmin, TomTom, and others wait at your disposal…
Anyway, the update is well worth, as you’ll have more stable device, better mobile browser, and more.
ATT to Introduce New iPhone Data Plan for International Roaming

To help travelers stay connected and manage their wireless costs, AT&T offers a variety of resources. AT&T’s Travel Guide (www.att.com/travelguide) allows customers to create an itinerary with rate information for up to 10 international destinations as well as review discounted voice and data packages.
AT&T to Welcome Nokia 2680 Slide

As its name suggests, this new Nokia comes in a slider form factor. What the name does not let us guess is the fact that, feature-wise, the 2680 Slide has nothing to make users excited about. Even so, the handset will soon hit AT&T's shelves. We don't know this from the North American carrier, but from the FCC, which has recently approved the slider and posted several pictures with it and AT&T's logo on its front case.
The 2680 was first presented by Nokia at the beginning of April, together with the 1680 Classic candybar. The handset offers the following: dual-band GSM connectivity (850 / 1900 MHz for the US) with GRPS, MP3 player, Nokia Xpress Audio Messaging, FM radio with recorder, a 128 x 160 pixels TFT display with 65K colors, WAP browser, email, handsfree, "advanced calculator", organizer, a VGA photo camera, 32MB of built-in memory. No microSD card slot is included.
Back in April, Nokia said that the suggested retail price of 2680 Slide is of 75 Euros (around 110 USD). This means that, with a contract agreement, AT&T will probably offer the handset for free. Now, there is only the matter of its release date, which is, for the moment, a mystery bigger than the one of Atlantis' existence.
AT&T and LG Introduce Invision Mobile TV Phone

Running on the nation’s fastest third-generation (3G) network, the Invision is pre-loaded with more than just video features, including AT&T Mobile Music, which provides fast access to downloadable music from eMusic, sideloading compatibility from Napster To Go and any unrestricted MP3 audio files and streaming digital radio by XM Radio Mobile. With Bluetooth 2.0 capabilities, you can wirelessly access music, listen to AT&T Mobile TV and make calls hands-free anytime.

Beyond all that, the contract price points were announced by Stevo at WWDC so there’s no news there. AT&T customers who aren’t eligible for an upgrade will pay a $200 premium ($399.99 for the 8 GB and $499 for the 16 GB) so the $200 subsidy rumor was indeed spot on. There is also an interesting note found on the site: “Coming soon, AT&T will offer a no-commitment option of $599 for 8GB and $699 for 16GB.” Re-he-healy?
AT&T Windows Mobile roadmap leaked!

AT&T has some Windows Mobile smartphones planned for release throughout the rest of 2008, and WMExperts managed to get a hold of the AT&T WinMo roadmap.
Pantech Duo II
Remember the Pantech Duo 2 that we saw pass through the FCC's testing labs? Right, well it seems we were on the ball in predicting that the keyboard/keypad hybid would be headed to AT&T.
The successor to the Pantech Duo, the Pantech Duo 2, will be sporting:
* Windows Mobile 6.1
* Tri-band (850/1900/2100Mhz) HSDPA (3.6)/Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE
* 528 MHz Processor
* 128MB RAM / 256MB ROM
* USB
* Bluetooth 2.0
* Micro SD
* 2 MP Camera
* GPS
Pantech Duo customers can also expect a Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade in October.
Samsung Blackjack 2
While some of us have been lucky enough to already have Windows Mobile 6.1 up and running on our Samsung BlackJack 2 smartphones, the general public will have to wait just a bit longer. The Samsung BJII will be getting the WM6.1 upgrade later this month (July).
Motorola Q9h
If Motorola's answer to the slim smartphone monoblock is more your style, you'll be happy to hear that your Motorola Q9h will be getting jiggy with WinMo 6.1 later this month (July).
Samsung SGH-i788 Blackjack 3
The long-awaited, touchscreen-toting successor to the Samsung BlackJack 2 will be hitting AT&T's network later this year. The US-friendly HSDPA frequency support differentiate the Samsung SGH-i788 from the Samsung SGH-i780. The integrated GPS receiver, 3 megapixel camera, WiFi, 528Mhz CPU, and touchscreen should make the Samsung SGH-i788 BlackJack 3 one of the most anticipated Windows Mobile candybar smartphones to drop this year.
* Windows Mobile 6.1
* Tri-band (900/1900/2100Mhz) UMTS/HSDPA (3.6); Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE
* 528 MHz processor
* 128MB RAM/ 256MB ROM
* Camera 3 MP
* AGPS
* VSC
* WiFi
AT&T Tilt:
The reigning Windows Mobile AT&T flagship will be seeing some Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade-love later this month. The HTC Kaiser (TyTn II) has already been blessed with Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrades courtesy of HTC, but AT&T Tilt users will have to wait for AT&T to roll out the upgraded ROM.
AT&T Tilt 2
What's this? Another successor to the popular HTC TyTn? That's right! AT&T will be launching the AT&T Tilt 2 (HTC TyTn III?) later this year. We're assuming that the HTC-sourced Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional smartphone will replace the AT&T Tilt as the flagship WinMo offering from AT&T. And, with HSDPA (3.6Mbps), WiFi, aGPS, 3 megapixel camera, and a speedy 528Mhz processor, the AT&T Tilt 2 will no doubt take its seat at the head of the WinMo table in AT&T's house.
* Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition
* Tri-band (900/1900/2100Mhz) UMTS/HSDPA (3.6); Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE
* Qualcomm 528 MHz processor
* 256MB ROM/ 128MB RAM
* 3.0 MP camera
* WiFi
* Bluetooth 2.0
* PTT
* aGPS
* VSC
Samsung Omnia
This one is pure speculation at this point, but we're also hearing that another Samsung handset is scheduled to hit AT&T in Q4 2008. With previous rumors pointing to the Samsung Omnia coming to AT&T, we're going to take a barely educated guess and peg the Samsung Omnia as the Samsung device slated for AT&T's network later this year.
So, are you still planning to get that iPhone 3G? With all these attractive options in the pipeline for AT&T, we can definitely see a good chunk of AT&T's subscriber-base waiting it out for a Windows Mobile handset.

AT&T’s iPhone Announcement

The prices are those announced by Steve Jobs at the WWDC. The 8GB will go for $199 and the 16GB will go for $299; both offers are available with two year plans. In order to qualify you would have to be a previous iPhone customer looking for the upgrade, a customer activating a new line, or a customer eligible for an upgrade discount.
If you aren’t eligible for whatever reason, you will be purchasing the 3G iPhone for $399 or $499 depending on what version you choose. The good news is that AT&T will offer a no contract iPhone for $599 and $699. When exactly is this future going to take place?
In order to check your eligibility, go online to AT&T and see if you qualify. If you pay your fees on time and your current AT&T contract is approaching its end you should be fine.
As for plans you have where to choose from. With pricing ranged from $69.99 to $129.99 per month you can choose from four AT&T Nation plans with voice minutes and unlimited data. SMS messages will be charged extra or you will have to get an additional SMS plan. Text messaging plans are from $20 for FamilyTalk plans of up to five lines to $15 for Nation, which will get you 1,500 messages or $5, which will get you 200 SMS.

* AT&T NationSM Unlimited: Includes unlimited Anytime Minutes for $129.99 a month.
* AT&T Nation 1350: Includes 1350 Anytime Minutes and unlimited Night & Weekend Minutes for $109.99 a month.
* AT&T Nation 900: Includes 900 Anytime Minutes and unlimited Night & Weekend Minutes for $89.99 a month.
* AT&T Nation 450: Includes 450 Anytime Minutes and 5,000 Night & Weekend Minutes for $69.99 a month.
Or you can choose an AT&T FamilyTalk when you buy your 3G iPhone. Both AT&T Nation and FamilyTalk will include long distance calling, roaming, visual voicemail, rollover minutes, unlimited mobile to mobile calling, call forwarding and waiting, caller ID and three way calling. It would be weired not to have any of these options included.
If you are waiting for your boss to get you the iPhone, make sure he knows the activation rules. If your company qualifies it should get the extra Enterprise Data Plan for iPhone priced at $45 per month and an eligible voice plan.
Ready to buy your 3G iPhone? How do you like AT&T’s iPhone plans compared to, let’s say 3’s plans in Hong Kong?
iPhone 3G Launching at 8:00 AM, July 11

"We just got a tip that AT&T store managers received emails stating that the iPhone launch would be at 8:00 AM on July 11th, and not 6:00 PM like last year," the source notes. "Our tipster stated this was 8:00 AM CT, but we’d guess if 8:00 AM was indeed the launch time, it would be 8:00 AM local time just like last year." It is still unconfirmed whether 8AM is the exact hour AT&T will open its doors to sell iPhone 3G units.
iPhone fans are surely happy to hear this, but they'd have probably been happier knowing that AT&T doesn't force them to activate the device in-store. Nevertheless, as soon as users take their new iPhones home, they'll be able to instantly start surfing the web and, best of all, the new App Store. Dozens of free apps will be made available at the launch of the service, while most of the Apps showcased at Apple's WWDC this year will go for as little as 10 bucks each.
However, people familiar with Apple's plans recently claimed huge differences between the lowest priced app and the most expensive pricing available to developers, while maximum file size and other limitations are in order as well.
Developers can either release the software for free download, in which case they'll get just a few rounds of applause, or charge iPhone owners from as little as 99 cents to as much as $999.99, in which case they get a 70 percent cut. Apple gets the remaining 30 percent, to spend on maintenance of the App Store.
2GB is the maximum size allowed for apps making their way onto the App Store, which will probably impose some content-based restrictions for creative developers, as some of you will agree. Last, Apple will not endorse the distribution of apps and games bearing an "adult" rating, those knowledgeable of the company's policies told AppleInsider two weeks ago.
Having said all this, who's bringing a sleeping bag to their local AT&T store?
